  • Objectives

    Objectives

O1. Understand and distinguish the basic concepts of gymnastics, including its origins and the specific terminology used in both competitive and non-competitive disciplines. O2. Acquire, understand, and apply knowledge related to gymnastic movement patterns, movement schemes, physical capacities, pedagogical teaching progressions, common technical errors, and manual spotting techniques. O3. Develop practical experience in basic gymnastic skills by performing and refining them, identifying and correcting common errors, and providing constructive feedback. This includes balances, rotations, gymnastic jumps, group technical elements, and adaptation exercises. O4. Acquire fundamental knowledge of safety procedures in gymnastics practice and apply appropriate teaching interventions.  O5. Demonstrate the ability to analyse, critically discuss, and communicate course topics in oral presentations, applying key concepts and transferring knowledge to other sports and practical situations.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

Different teaching methodologies (TM) will be used: TM1: Demonstration, practical experimentation, and skill practice. TM2: Simulated teaching practice involving lesson planning, organisation, and instructional intervention. TM3: Case-based learning through the resolution of practical cases. TM4: Small-group learning activities. TM5: Feedback provided by the lecturer on students' work and performance. TM6: Lectures, structured discussions, and independent preparation of oral presentations.

  • Assessment

    Assessment

Assessment is based on continuous assessment, in accordance with the General Assessment Regulations of Lusófona University (available on Moodle). The following assessment methods will be used: a written theoretical test, an individual practical assessment, and a group assignment. Assessment dates will be announced at the beginning of the semester and published on Moodle.

Warm-up: Students are required to design and lead a warm-up session based on the structure provided in the main course support document. This will take place during one class throughout the semester. The lecturer will determine whether the activity is completed individually or in small groups. Completion of this task is mandatory for continuous assessment, and students must obtain a mark above 0.

Written theoretical test: A written test covering all theoretical and practical course content addressed during the semester. The assessment evaluates students' knowledge, understanding, interpretation, and application of the course content. It may include short-answer questions, essay questions, multiple-choice questions, and case analyses. Lecturers may require an oral examination to allow students to justify their performance.

Individual practical assessment: Students are required to design and perform a floor routine incorporating technical elements and linking movements. At the time of assessment, they must submit a clearly identified, well-structured, and error-free written report describing the routine.

Group assignment: Students will complete a small-group assignment consisting of two assessment stages. Topics will be published on Moodle and allocated to each group during the assessment class. Each group will be given preparation time during the class before delivering an oral presentation and practical demonstration.
