    This curricular unit International Institutions and Organisations provides an introductory approach to the functions, organisational structures and role of international institutions in the development of multilateralism. Based on a comprehensive analysis of international relations, this course combines a theoretical concept dimension with institutional and organisational practice. On the one hand, it explores the importance of international structures, the diversity and relevance of their areas of intervention, such as in the diplomatic field, as well as in the field of citizen or private participation. It also examines the impact of international policymaking at the  global, regional and domestic levels, considering contemporary global challenges.

    Objectives

    This curricular unit International Institutions and Organisations aims to students take acknowledge about the fundamental characteristics, processes, norms, and results associated with the functioning of international institutions and organisations. The intened learning outcomes are: (1) to understand the different types of international organisations and the roles of international institutions; (2) to analyse the performance of international institutions and their interactions with the major players in the international system in different thematic forums; (3) to apply conceptual and theoretical frameworks to case studies of international institutions; (4) to assess the commitment of international institutions and organisations in shaping the international system and subsystems in the light of contemporary global challenges.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    In addition to the sessions dedicated to providing students with the key concepts and theoretical framework specific to this course International Institutions and Organisations, this course adopts also a mixed pedagogical approach – TBL (team based learning) and PBL (project/problem based learning). Through the formation of working groups, students are encouraged to develop group projects and/or activities (simulations), in which they are guided by the lecturer to (1) define goals, strategies and deadlines, (2) practice negotiation, debate and reflect on the problems proposed, (3) critically evaluate and present the results clearly. With a focus on group presentations, critical discussion of texts and written work, students are placed at the center of the learning process.
