Introduction to Political Science is a curricular unit whose main objective is to present Politics as a Science. Using theoretical and practical methodologies, the aim is to put students in contact with the main theoretical concepts and debates in Political Science.

1. The assumptions of political science: concept and object. 2. The methods of political science 3. Power, sovereignty and the State 4. Forms and seat of power: political parties and civil society 5. Political ideologies 6. The typologies of political regimes 7. The political system: government system; electoral system; administrative system 8. International interdependencies and the subsidiary State

Objectives
At the end of the semester, students must: 1) Be able to frame and justify Political Science as an area of knowledge 2) Master the different methods used in Political Science 3) Identify and relate the main authors, concepts and actors of Political Science 4) Be able to question global interdependencies and learn about new proposals for State models, namely the Subsidiary State.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The methods to be used will essentially be expository and interrogative, taking into account the nature of the materials. The pedagogical techniques to be used will be: the exposition technique; ice-breaker technique; brainstorming technique; case study technique; group work technique and debate technique. For continuous assessment: Occurrence Sheet and Observation Sheet. Assessment Tests with qualitative and quantitative measurement.
