Class Theory and Methodology of Social Work I

The UC of Social Work Theory and Methodology I is an introductory unit that aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities for professional practice.

I - Nature and meaning of Social Work

3. The identity of the profession

II - Social Work and Society

1. The relationship between Social Work and Society
2. Intervention in social problems - conceptualization of social problems
3. Societal transformations, trends and power relations between different social agents

III - The intervention of Social Work

1. Areas, fields, levels and units of intervention.
2. The social intervention process
3. Theoretical matrices, models and methods of intervention in Social Work
4. The question of research in Social Work

IV - Social Work in Contemporary Societies

1. Globalization and the Risk Society
2. Resignification of social problems and new areas of social intervention
3. Current Challenges for Social Work

The UC is intended to be a space for reflection and co-construction of knowledge about professional practice. To this end, students will be given various tasks to research and systematize knowledge (particularly in terms of intervention models and techniques), which they will have to share with their colleagues in session.
