    I - Nature and meaning of Social Work Social Work as a profession The [theoretical-methodological, technical-operative and ethical-political] domains of the profession The identity of the profession II - Social Work and Society The relationship between Social Work and Society Intervention in social problems - conceptualization of social problems Societal transformations, trends and power relations between different social agents III - The intervention of Social Work Areas, fields, levels and units of intervention. The social intervention process Theoretical matrices, models and methods of intervention in Social Work The question of research in Social Work IV - Social Work in Contemporary Societies Globalization and the Risk Society Resignification of social problems and new areas of social intervention Current Challenges for Social Work

    Objectives

    - Place Social Work in the field of Social Sciences and social intervention; - Understand and know how to reflect on the nature and meaning of Social Work as a profession; - Understand and know how to establish relationships between Social Work and Society, especially in response to social problems and transformations; - To know the main theoretical approaches in Social Work; - To know the different stages of the intervention methodology and knowing how to establish the interconnections between them; - To know (understand and apply) the main models and instruments of diagnostic evaluation and social intervention; - Develop critical thinking about current social problems and the challenges they pose to social intervention.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    The UC is intended to be a space for reflection and co-construction of knowledge about professional practice. To this end, students will be given various tasks to research and systematize knowledge (particularly in terms of intervention models and techniques), which they will have to share with their colleagues in session.

    Assessment

    Privilegia-se uma metodologia interativa e participativa, assente na prática de debates, painéis temáticos, simulações como fonte de aprendizagem de argumentação e oralidade.  A avaliação encontra-se traduzida nos seguintes elementos: 1) Trabalho de grupo escrito (com base em textos fornecidos pela docente) - 30%; 2) Teste individual escrito - 50%; 3) Exercícios práticos em aula (organizados em portfólio) - 20%.
