    Introduction to the departments of cinema: image, sound, and editing. Illustrative technical introduction to the core departments of film production. This course unit collaborates with Atelier de Realização e Produção Cinematográficas I, which promotes individual projects involving short films, allowing the acquired knowledge to be put into practice in a cross-disciplinary way.

    Syllabus

      IMAGE Introduction to the art of cinematography. The role of the cinematographer and film crews. Film cameras: operation and handling. Rules of composition. The 180-degree rule. Basic three-point lighting. SOUND Phenomenological, aesthetic, and semiotic perspectives on the relationship between sound and the moving image. From sound production to directing: planning, organization, mapping, dynamic interaction, and power relations. Strategies and practice of sound capture/recording in shooting and studio contexts. Basic notions of sound restoration. Spatialization as an aesthetic-artistic element. EDITING Functions and working strategies of the editor in the context of post-production. The creative practice of editing. The challenges of film editing in contemporary cinema.

    Introduction to the foundational departments of film production and creation and their relationship with directing: camera and cinematography (equipment and art); sound (stages of audio production and post-production); editing (non-linear editing and the creative process).

    Theoretical exposition and applied theory: presentation of in-depth case studies. Technical and creative support for the projects to be developed in the course unit Atelier de Realização e Produção Cinematográficas I.

    A avaliação terá como base:

    50% - Presença e participação nas aulas. 

    50% - Apresentação individual oral com apoio de power point,sobre o projeto realizado na UC  Atelier de Realização e Produção Cinematográficas I, considerando as áreas de Imagem, Som e Montagem. 

     

    EXAME: Para os alunos que não tenham obtido aproveitamento positivo, o exame será escrito e presencial (reflexão analítica sobre os diferentes departamentos do cinema, assente em bibliografia a fornecer pelos professores).
