CAMERA 1. A brief introduction to the art of photographic direction. 2. The role of the director of photography and film crews. 3. Film cameras: operation and handling. 4. Lighting. EDITING 1. Contemporary cinema and the challenges of editing. 2. The editor's role in post-production. 3. The practice of editing. ART DIRECTION 1. Concept and functions of art direction. 2. Artistic creation of diegetic universes in cinema - schools, styles and authors. 3. The practical dimension of the art department and the creative process in cinema. SOUND 1. Phenomenological, aesthetic and semiotic perspectives on the articulation between sound and the moving image. 2. From sound production to directing: planning, organisation, mapping, dynamic interaction and power relations. 3. Strategies and practice of sound capture/recording in a shooting and studio context. 4. Basics of sound restoration. 5. Spatialisation as an aesthetic-artistic element.

Objectives
Introduction to the basic departments of film production and creation and their relationship with directing: camera and cinematography (machinery and art); editing (use of non-linear editing applications); art direction (production of space, sensations and the senses); sound (stages of audio production and post-production).

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
Theoretical presentation and applied theory: presentation of in-depth case studies. Preparation for a final technical application exercise involving all technical and artistic departments of cinema (film set). Assessment will be based on attendance and participation in practical assignments. 25% Evaluation of the edited film. 25%. Individual presentation with PPT (5 min) describing all departments involved in the editing of a film production. IIncluding an oral presentation on the practical exercise carried out, with PowerPoint support, considering the various techniques applied. 50% EXAM: For students who have not passed, or who wish to improve their grade, the exam will be written and taken in person (analytical reflection on the different departments of cinema, based on bibliography to be provided by the Professors).
