    This curricular unit aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge that comprise the different aspects of the Lean management philosophy and the most relevant Operational Excellence models. It covers a broader set of topics than those covered in the Integrated Management Systems, Method Engineering and Production Planning and Control curricular units, including: value chain management, structured problem solving, continuous improvement and kaizen, visual management, total management of the operational flows, among others. The main models of organizational Excellence, such as the European model of the EFQM and the Shingo Model, are also addressed and developed in this course

    Objectives

    It is intended that the students will learn: The fundamental principles of organizational excellence and the dimensions that determine the sustainability of the business in the economic, environmental and social aspects. To employ self-assessment tools in order to identify the organization's strengths and areas for improvement, which will allow the development of action plans. To frame the guiding and supporting principles of the Shingo Model within the scope of cultural transformation processes within an organization. To have a holistic view of the Lean management systems, comprising the stratgic, tactical, and operational levels. A greater understanding and knowing how to apply Lean concepts and tools to develop process improvement initiatives and projects.

    Teaching methodologies

    Organization of seminars and/or study visits in a business environment. Lean Lab workshop, using a gamification approach to learning. It consists of applying Lean principles, methodologies, and tools to improve store operational processes that are representative of the Leroy Merlin reality.

    Assessment

    A metodologia de ensino assenta numa abordagem teórico-prática, onde a exposição dos conceitos é complementada pela resolução de exercícios e de casos práticos, com a participação activa dos alunos. Para a avaliação contínua contarão os seguintes componentes:

    1. Trabalhos individuais realizados em aula: peso de 10%
    2. Workshop Lean Lab e discussão final do trabalho por cada elemento do grupo: peso de 40%
    3. Frequência(s): peso de 50%.

    Relativamente ao elemento avaliativo 2 (trabalhode grupo), a discussão individual do trabalho tem uma contribuição de 60% para a nota desta componente, sendo que o conteúdo do trabalho do grupo tem uma contribuição de 40%.

    O aluno ficará aprovado e dispensado de exame se a nota obtida na média de ambas as frequências for de, pelo menos, 9,5 valores e se, simultaneamente, a média ponderada entre todos os elementos avaliativos for, no mínimo, de 11 valores.

    Exame: O aluno estará aprovado se o resultado no exame for igual ou superior a 9,5 valores.
