    Sound production plays a major role in virtually every field of media arts. With the exponential evolution of information and multimedia communication technologies, sound recording and reproduction strategies have been developed to meet the needs of the new challenges of the media and the world of entertainment. Thus, the course aims to transfer a set of technical and creative references in order to provide students with knowledge and skills to consolidate musical and multimedia projects with a high degree of autonomy. This requires addressing the latest and most innovative recording technologies and mono, stereo and multichannel recording strategies. Exposure to ongoing research projects in the field of sound recording and reproduction favors knowledge around the state of the art of sound technologies in the specific context of the media arts.

    1. Dynamic and electrostatic transduction systems;

    2. Microphones: study of technical specificities and applicability;

    3. Pre-amplification systems: study of technical specificities and applicability;

    4. Concepts associated with digital audio, AD / DA conversion systems and system configuration;

    5. AVID Pro tools HDX systems: configuration of setups;

    6. Signal flow and analysis of technical specifications of studio equipment;

    7. Advanced editing, editing and sound design techniques;

    8. Research methodologies: graph analysis;

    9. Sound restoration techniques;

    10. Mono, stereo and multichannel capture techniques;

    11. Advanced recording and recording techniques for audiovisual, multimedia and music production ;: application exercises;

    12. Capture for the production of immersive environments: surround, Dolby Atmos to 3D binaural, Ambisonics;

    13. Research, development and future technological trends;

    14. Project development;

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    This course aims to favor the acquisition of knowledge and skills with special regard to sound technologies and processes (technical and artistic) associated with recording. The course also enables the development and enhancement of creativity, both in the ability to innovate and deepen strategies in the consolidation of sound narratives, and through the ability to critically analyze communication strategies and understand the role of sound in the context of the media arts. From the technical references acquired, students should demonstrate autonomy in the creative consolidation of audiovisual and musical projects, both in the planning of recording strategies, as well as in editing, treatment and mixing.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The course is organized according to theoretical oral presentation sessions in order to consolidate theoretical-practical knowledge around recording and mixing techniques. These sessions are supported through audiovisual projection equipment and sound reproduction systems. Bibliographic materials and complementary information associated with the classes are made available through the e-Learning platform Moodle. The practical sessions will mostly be taught in a recording studio context
