The curricular unit of Scientific Research Methodologies has as its main field of action the consolidation of students' sustained critical thinking. Its field of intervention is fundamental in structuring professional academic thinking, providing the student with the understanding of scientific methodologies, the development of a theoretical work consistent with international quality standards.

Syllabus
Classes will be based on audiovisual materials and texts with which students will be able to dynamically relate throughout the course. The curricular unit contains a high degree of academic coherence as it focuses on specific methodologies of sound studies. It will provide students the possibility to become familiar with the main components of qualitative approaches to social science research, allowing them to understand and become proficient in the field of qualitative research, by covering in detail the most common qualitative methods; participant observation, in-depth interviews and focus groups. Students' skills are also developed in a wide range of quantitative research techniques, including the use of sound analysis software.

Objectives
This is a blended learning course unit that is intended to help students make the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate studies in a confidente manner, by developing their academic research skills. Students will participate in thematic seminars where different aspects of the scientific research method applied to sound studies will be analysed, scrutining the relationship between different branches of sound theory and the specific materialities of the sonic object. At the end of this course unit students should be able to write a postgraduate essay or report of international academic standard.

Weekly presentation by students of problems and progress in research. Class discussion of all research topics, including textual references, sound and/or technological instances, that will allow analytical or illustrative roots to be developed by the student.
