    This Curricular Unit falls within the 1st Cycle of Physical Education and Sport, the scientific area of Physical Education and Sport. It aims to provide basic and updated knowledge regarding the main issues of musculoskeletal injuries related to the practice of exercise/physical activity, as well as general principles of rehabilitation of some injuries through physical exercise. The curricular unit also aims to present general recommendations for the assessment and prescription of physical exercise in different musculoskeletal injuries and develop knowledge about first aid and aquatic rescue.

    Syllabus

    The programmatic contents (PC) are: PC1.Definition of sports injury: General principles of sports injury, types of injury, severity of injuries, acute and chronic injuries PC2. Physiology of post-injury tissue repair and recovery procedures PC3. Assessment and prescription of exercise in the prevention for bone injuries: fractures, stress fractures and periostitis PC4. Assessment and prescription of exercise in the prevention for joint injuries: ligament rupture, joint dislocation and osteoarthrosis PC5. Assessment and prescription of exercise in the prevention for muscle injuries: muscle tears, strains, bruises, tendinopathies PC6. First aid; basic life support and aquatic rescue

    Objectives

    By defining the learning objectives (LO), it is intended that students who attend this UC: LO1. Acquire knowledge about the risk factors for the occurrence of sports injuries, in order to prevent them. LO2. Acquire knowledge about the assessment, prevention and recovery methods of the main musculoskeletal injuries through physical exercise LO3. Acquire basic knowledge about first aid and water rescue

    Teaching methodologies

    Different teaching methodologies (ME) will be used: Expository classes (ME1): Resolution of practical cases (ME2), Viewing and discussion of documentaries/videos (ME3), Bibliographic research (ME4), Analysis of scientific articles (ME5) , Small group activities (ME6), Feedback information provided by the teacher about the work carried out (ME7).

  • Assessment

    Assessment

    A avaliação é levada a cabo nos termos do Regulamento Geral de Avaliação da Universidade Lusófona. Os instrumentos de avaliação (IA) que serão utilizados são 1) prova escrita e 2) apresentação oral de trabalhos

    A classificação final é determinada arredondando às unidades o valor da média aritmética ponderada das classificações obtidas nos momentos de avaliação. Para a aprovação a classificação final terá que ser > ou = a 9.5 valores. 
    Os estudantes que não obtenham aprovação poderão submeter-se a exame na época de recurso. O exame de recurso (prova escrita e prova oral) incidirá sobre a totalidade dos CP. 

    Prova de avaliação I: 35%

    Apresentação de grupo de um artigo científico: 30% 

    Prova de avaliação II: 35%
