Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The film Banzo, directed by Margarida Cardoso, a lecturer in the DOC NOMADS - Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters at Lusófona University, will be screened in a special session at Cinema Fernando Lopes. The narrative takes viewers back to 1907, following the journey of Afonso, a doctor who settles on a tropical African island, where he faces the challenge of treating servants afflicted by banzo—a deep nostalgia that can lead to starvation or suicide. Isolated on a hill surrounded by forest, Afonso strives to understand and ease this suffering, confronting the limitations of medicine in the face of the complexity of human condition.
Margarida Cardoso, known for her work on colonial and post-colonial themes, once again brings a thought-provoking reflection on history and social dynamics to the big screen. In addition to her filmmaking career, she has been a lecturer at Lusófona University since 2005, playing a key role in shaping new generations of filmmakers.
The screening will take place on April 1st at 2:00 PM at Cinema Fernando Lopes. Admission is free, and the event will be followed by a Q&A session with the director. Don't miss this opportunity to watch a film that challenges history and the human condition through cinema.
