Uriel Orlow, based in Lisbon, London, and Zurich, is a multidisciplinary artist with a PhD in Fine Arts. He studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (London), the University of Geneva, the Slade School of Art/University College London, and UAL (University of the Arts London). His research-based practice explores the remnants of colonialism, memory, social and ecological justice, and plants as political actors, using installation, film, photography, and sound.
He has received several awards, including the Swiss Grand Award for Art in 2023, the C. F. Meyer Prize in 2020, and the Sharjah Biennial Prize in 2017. His work has been featured in major exhibitions such as the Berlin Biennale (2022), the Venice Biennale (2011), and Manifesta 9 and 12. Among his recent solo exhibitions are Casa da Cerca, Almada (2022–2023), Kunsthalle Mainz (2019–2020), and The Showroom, London (2016).
Orlow has published monographs such as Conversing with Leaves (2020), Soil Affinities (2019), and Theatrum Botanicum (2018). He has taught at institutions such as Goldsmiths, Central Saint Martins, and ZHdK Zurich, and currently holds positions at the University of Westminster and ZHdK.
