Webinar Submarine Communications Strategy: Portugal at the Heart of the Global Network
Webinar highlights Portugal’s strategic role in the digital infrastructure supporting over 95% of global data traffic
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Submarine communications form the backbone of the global digital ecosystem, carrying over 95% of international data that supports the digital economy, intercontinental communication, and technological innovation. In this context, Portugal asserts itself as a privileged geostrategic point, playing a prominent role as a natural hub for intercontinental connections.
As part of the LES Digital Breakfast series, Lusófona University – through the Lusófona Executive School, in partnership with the academic units ECEO, ECATI, and FCESE – is organising the webinar “Submarine Communications Strategy and Portugal’s Role”, featuring José Barros, a professional with over four decades of experience in the telecommunications sector, having worked with organisations such as Marconi, Portugal Telecom, and Anacom.
Moderated by Rui Ribeiro, Executive Director of the Lusófona Executive School, the session offers a strategic reflection on the critical importance of submarine cables in the global digital economy, highlighting Portugal’s central role in the international communications network. It will also explore the challenges associated with security, management, and technological innovation in this vital field.
