Journeys V Lusófona Nutrition Conference
These conference sessions bring together a wide range of specialists who will reflect on the importance of Nutrition far beyond the study of nutrients
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The Lusophone Nutrition Conferences are established as a leading academic event, focused on the dissemination, critical reflection and scientific updating surrounding the multiple dimensions that shape the Nutritional Sciences.
In a global context marked by profound demographic, epidemiological, technological and social transformations, Nutrition emerges as a cross-cutting field of knowledge, with direct and indirect impact on health promotion, disease prevention, clinical management, the development of the agri-food industry, the sustainability of food systems and the formulation of public policies.
The organisation of the 5th Lusophone Nutrition Conferences therefore represents a privileged space for scientific and interdisciplinary dialogue, designed to highlight the growing relevance of the nutritionist across different areas of professional practice, as well as their continuous adaptation to the contemporary demands of professional practice and research. By bringing together specialists from different fields of knowledge, this event aims not only to share up-to-date knowledge, but also to stimulate the integration of perspectives, methodologies and experiences, reflecting the complexity inherent to the nutritional challenges of the 21st century.
Nutrition, as an applied science, has long ceased to be limited to the study of nutrients and their isolated functions. Today, it stands as a dynamic and multifaceted field, integrating knowledge from molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, epidemiology, social sciences, food technology and health sciences.
The 5th Lusophone Nutrition Conferences propose a scientific roadmap entitled “From Nutrigenetics to Nutrigenomics”, highlighting the paradigm shift from a generalist approach to increasingly personalised, predictive and molecular evidence-based nutrition. Nutrigenetics, by studying the influence of individual genetic variations on responses to nutrients, opened the path to a deeper understanding of interindividual differences in metabolism, disease risk and the effectiveness of nutritional interventions. Nutrigenomics further develops this perspective by analysing how nutrients and dietary patterns modulate gene expression, influencing metabolic, inflammatory and epigenetic processes throughout the life cycle.
The Lusophone Nutrition Conferences also play a relevant role in promoting scientific research, encouraging the dissemination of innovative work, the sharing of research results and contact between researchers at different stages of their careers. This scientific exchange contributes to strengthening research networks, fostering the internationalisation of knowledge and consolidating Nutrition as an autonomous scientific field in constant evolution.
In summary, the 5th Lusophone Nutrition Conferences represent much more than an academic meeting. They constitute a forum for strategic reflection on the present and future of Nutrition, highlighting its broad scientific and professional scope and reaffirming the essential role of the nutritionist in health promotion, disease prevention, food innovation and the construction of healthier and more sustainable societies. By outlining the roadmap “From Nutrigenetics to Nutrigenomics”, these Conferences underline the central role of Nutrition in contemporary science and its capacity to respond, in an integrated and evidence-based way, to today’s global challenges.
