For each academic year, the teachers involved in the discipline are invited to propose several themes related to their lines of research or, ideally, to the resolution of a specific problem for an external partner entity. The totality of the themes to be worked on will depend on the number of students enrolled in the course, with the students choosing the theme according to their area of personal interest. It will proceed as follows: - Presentation of the themes of the tutor teachers; - Organization of working groups; - Selection of project themes by the working groups; - Introduction to the topic where students will develop the work; - Guidance of students by specific tutors, with classes / monitoring of the working group (tutorial meetings); - Development of work and preparation of a final report; - Presentation of the final results, in seminar mode, to colleagues, professors and possible partner entities

Objectives
The main objective of the course is to put students before the specifics associated with the development of an R&D work, or solving a specific problem, in core areas of Environmental Engineering, in a real context (dimensioning, feasibility assessment, planning, execution ). It will allow you to acquire a global vision of the type of work that you may carry out in your professional career, whether in R&D or in the labor market.

Teaching methodologies
Whenever possible, the aim is to integrate students in R&D projects where teachers are involved, or in challenges to solve specific problems proposed by an external partner entity, looking for themes that imply a theoretical preparation component, a experimental component (in the laboratory and/or in the field), including, whenever possible, acquisition, processing and interpretation of unpublished data.

Elementos de avaliação serão: Relatório Final + Apresentação oral.
A avaliação baseia-se no relatório escrito entregue ao docente responsável pelo tema e na apresentação oral final. O trabalho (métodos, resultados, discussão) é defendido com uma apresentação oral, com a participação de todos os elementos do grupo de trabalho, onde se procede à apreciação, discussão e classificação do relatório final. A Classificação será de 0 a 20 valores, ficando aprovados com nota igual ou superior a 10 valores. Relatório: 40%; Apresentação 15%; Discussão: 45%Assessment elements will be: Final Report + Oral Presentation.
The assessment is based on the written report submitted to the lecturer responsible for the topic and on the final oral presentation. The work (methods, results, discussion) is defended with an oral presentation, with the participation of all members of the working group, where the final report is assessed, discussed, and graded. The grade will be from 0 to 20 points, with a grade of 10 or higher being required to pass. Report: 40%; Presentation: 15%; Discussion: 45%
