Syllabus
Principles and methodologies for the conservation of the architectural heritage: reasons to preserve the architecture of the past; The new different kinds of built heritage: industrial heritage; historic gardens; rural heritage; twentieth century heritage; contemporary architecture and historic towns and villages; criteria in heritage conservation. Conservation projects of historic towns and villages: methodologies, objectives, procedures and ethics.

Objectives
Objectives
To learn about the evolution of the principles for the conservation of the the architectural heritage throughout the 20th century, at the national and the international levels; To understand the main cultural, social and economic challenges of modern societies, regarding the conservation of architectural heritage; To understand the relationship between the conservation of historic towns and villages and the current problems of the towns, including the environmental protection; To understand and apply the methodologies and best practices to the conservation of historic towns and villages.

Assessment
Assessment
Está prevista a realização de um trabalho prático que abordará as temáticas abordadas nas aulas. Esse trabalho será realizado em duas etapas, que constituirão dois momentos de avaliação.
Todos os alunos, inclusive alunos em Regime Especial, têm de cumprir os dois momentos avaliativos previstos, caso contrário não poderão ter aproveitamento positivo na UC.
O aluno que tenha efetuado apenas um dos momentos avaliativos, entregará em exame elementos complementares do trabalho desenvolvido durante o semestre.
O aluno que não efetuar nenhum dos momentos avaliativos, efetuará um exame escrito sobre os conteúdos do programa da unidade curricular ou trabalho complementar combinado com o docente e entregue e apresentado em momento de exame.
