This course unit (UC) aims to equip students with practical skills in scientific research methodologies through an in-depth study of a chosen topic. Students are encouraged to conduct detailed bibliographic research, develop experimental work, and analyze the results obtained. The process culminates in the preparation and presentation of a dissertation, which is essential for consolidating the acquired competencies. These competencies include information management, organization, analysis and synthesis, critical reasoning, problem-solving, understanding scientific language, autonomous learning, oral and written communication, and entrepreneurial initiative. This UC is crucial in the study cycle as it provides the practical experience necessary for integration into the job market or for continuing academic studies.

Objectives
Objectives
The dissertation aims to provide trainees with the ability to use applied research instruments, based on a study on a topic chosen by the student. It is intended that the student deepens the bibliographical research on the previously chosen theme, performs the experimental work according to the tasks to be developed over time and with previously defined objectives. The various previously scheduled tasks must be carried out to obtain results that must be presented at the end of the course in the form of a dissertation. The main skills to be developed by the student are the ability to: information management, organization and planning, analysis and synthesis, critical thinking, ability to solve problems, understanding the language of other specialists, autonomous learning and oral and written communication, initiative, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The scientific activities will be developed using the guidance tutored by the dissertation supervisor. The structuring project of the work, chosen in advance, must elect the preferred ways. If feasible, the project to be developed by the students may take place in the context of an internship at a company.
