Presentation
Presentation
The Crime Prevention and Security course unit examines the design, implementation and evaluation of strategies that reduce crime, victimisation and the fear of crime, drawing on contributions from criminology, law, sociology, psychology and public policy. It operates at the interface between research and practice, in contexts such as law enforcement agencies, municipal police, justice and social reintegration services, local authorities, the third sector, victim support and private security. Its areas of intervention include prevention models (primary, secondary and tertiary), situational and environmental prevention, local crime analysis, community policing, risk management, and the evaluation of programmes and policies. Within the study cycle, it is central because it links the analysis of criminal phenomena with intervention, developing analytical, planning and evaluation skills and preparing students for evidence-based projects, internships and dissertations.
