Award of an honorary degree to a lecturer at Universidade Lusófona
Academic honoured for contribution to Communication Sciences in Brazil and Lusophone countries
16.04.24 - 16h00Lusófona University, a university centre in Porto, had the honour of awarding the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor Cecília Peruzzo. The academic procession entered accompanied by a musical moment consisting of a violin piece.
The Rector, Professor José Bragança de Miranda, emphasised that Lusófona University had honoured Professor Cecília Peruzzo because she embodied excellence and the desire to strengthen our academic community. He said that she is an asset to the community we make up, and that the Lusophone University is counting on her strength and intelligence to keep the country moving forward.
The floor was then given to the COFAC Administrator, Professor Conceição Soeiro. She said that the honoree had distinguished herself in scientific, political and civic entities that had become an inspiration to the community.
Professor Carla Cerqueira read out the PhD Proposal, highlighting the honoree's vast biography, which is marked by the different universities she has attended. Cecília Maria Krohling Peruzzo is a professor of Communication Sciences, specialising in Public Relations and Popular and Community Communication. She has a PhD from the University of São Paulo and has dedicated her life to teaching, university extension and research at Methodist University. Her main research and publication themes are: citizenship, social movements, participation, popular and community communication, social development.
But what stands out most about Professor Cecília Peruzzo's academic career is her significant contribution to the construction of the field of Communication Sciences in Brazil, other Portuguese-speaking countries and also in Spanish-speaking Latin America, creating the conditions for broad cooperation in teaching and research. She has made many scientific contributions to cultural studies, especially communication studies, and it is an honour to have her in our academy.
The eulogies were followed by the academic godfather, Professor Dr Moisés Lemos Martins, and the solemn conferral of the title by the Magnificent Rector, Professor Dr José Bragança de Miranda.
Professor Dr Cecília Peruzzo thanked everyone and spoke about the role of the university as a place where skills are developed. She has worked as a teacher and student for the benefit of the community. She ended her thanks with the phrase "thank you for a life that is changing so much". The ceremony ended with a musical moment, expressing gratitude for the inspiring example that Professor Cecília Peruzzo represents for the community and for Universidade Lusófona.
