Call for Proposals - Until 27th January 2025
The Lusófona University, in partnership with the International Panorama Council and the Institute of Art History (IHA, NOVA-FCSH/IN2PAST), invites researchers, artists, and enthusiasts to submit proposals for the 34th International Conference of the International Panorama Council (IPC), which will take place from 2nd to 4th July 2025, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
Under the theme "The World at a Glance. Panoramic and Peep Technologies", which refers to Robert Barker's invention (1787) and its original formulation "Nature at a Glance" ("La Nature à Coup d’Oeil"), the conference will explore the impact of immersive visual technologies – such as panoramas, cosmoramas, and dioramas – on our perception of the world and the modern desire to experience the world visually through panoramic and peep technologies.
Exhibition and Post-Conference Excursion
The conference will also feature the exclusive exhibition "The Cosmorama: The 19th-Century Hidden Travels", which will be an integral part of the event and will explore the virtual travels of the 19th century. After the conference, there will be an optional excursion on 5th July 2025.
