The European Commission has published the Report on the Results and Transformative Potential of the European Universities Initiative, assessing the progress and achievements of the alliances since their inception in 2019. The report provides recommendations for the continued success of the initiative and highlights FilmEU as a strong example of transnational cooperation in higher education.
As a thematic alliance dedicated to film and media arts, FilmEU brings together two universities and specialised institutions, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to education and research. The alliance’s governance model and collaborative frameworks are recognised for their contribution to the development of European educational strategies, including participation in the ETIKETA project (etiketa.filmeu.eu), which addressed the issues surrounding the future European degree label.
The report highlights initiatives such as the FilmEU Springboard Challenge, an innovative mobility programme that brings together students from different institutions to produce short films in various European countries, promoting hands-on learning and international collaboration.
Samsara is presented as an innovative pedagogical model in film education. Rather than merely teaching about film, Samsara promotes education through film, combining technical training with media literacy and critical thinking. This approach reflects FilmEU’s interdisciplinary and transnational vision, preparing students for contemporary challenges in the creative industries.
Furthermore, the FilmEU Toolkit is recognised as a valuable resource, offering structured recommendations for the development of European Universities.
