Students from the Faculty of Engineering (FE) of Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre, accompanied by professor Ana Roís, carried out a field visit to the Corno do Bico Natural Reserve, located in the municipality of Paredes de Coura. The visit was organized within the scope of the disciplines of Botany and Zoology, in the context of the FE Eco-Schools program, with the aim of deepening knowledge about ecological diversity and sustainability.
The Corno do Bico Reserve, a conservation unit of great ecological value, stands out for its rich biodiversity and importance in the conservation of several animal and plant species. During the visit, students participated in several practical activities guided by the reserve's monitors, providing them with an immersive experience on topics related to biodiversity conservation and the advantages of organic agriculture in terms of environmental impact.
Topics covered included exploring the outdoors, where students had the opportunity to identify and catalog various plant species, as well as learning about the fundamental role of plants in carbon capture. The relevance of sustainable agricultural practices, such as organic farming, in reducing environmental impacts was also highlighted.
In addition to field activities, students participated in training workshops, where they were able to closely observe and study various species present in the reserve, applying the knowledge acquired in classes in a natural environment. The experience proved to be enriching and sensitized students to the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices that benefit the environment.
The visit to the Corno do Bico Reserve provided a unique opportunity to learn and connect with nature, reinforcing the Lusófona University's commitment to environmental education and the training of conscious professionals dedicated to sustainability.
