A Coffee and a New Pair of Shoes
Synopsis
What happens to a human being when their windows of perception are irreversibly blocked? Upon discovering the imminent blindness that fate holds for them, Agim and Gëzim, two identical, inseparable, and Deaf twin brothers, construct a new language made of opaque silences.
We are in Tirana, in present times, where the brothers, in their thirties, live together under the same roof. Ana, Gëzim's girlfriend, a young and energetic woman, visits them quite often. One night, Agim is driving home with Gëzim when his vision becomes blurred, and he nearly has a fatal accident. A few days later, at the ophthalmologist, they discover that, due to a rare genetic disease, they will progressively and irreversibly lose their sight.
In this story based on true events, the raw and, at times, cruel beauty found in sadness reveals itself in poetic temporal spaces. Slowly plunging into unbearable darkness, unable to see the world or each other, and with only Ana for company, over a cup of coffee and a new pair of shoes, the two brothers are faced with a firm decision.
In this cinematic allegory of the very limits of cinema, there is a journey to be made through melancholy and discomfort that seems to end only when it becomes comfort or, perhaps, something new to discover.
