The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine performs an innovative and pioneering surgical procedure to implant an intracardiac pacemaker in a 23 kg dog

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Lusófona University implanted an intracardiac pacemaker in a 23 kg dog diagnosed with third-degree atrioventricular block and syncope.
The procedure, innovative and pioneering in veterinary medical education in Portugal, was carried out by a multidisciplinary team of veterinary surgeons specialising in cardiology, minimally invasive intervention, and anaesthesia, who ensured all the critical stages of the surgery, which was successfully completed. The animal is recovering well and under the care of its owners.
This achievement represents a significant advancement in veterinary medical education, placing the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Lusófona University at the forefront of clinical and scientific innovation, safeguarding the promotion of animal health and welfare in Portugal.
