The Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine at ULHT aims to provide an adequate theoretical knowledge based on science and broad practical experience that will enable the future licensees to treat and prevent diseases in animal, contribute to animal production upholding the animal¿s health and welfare, protect public health from animal-borne disease by ensuring hygiene and safety of food of animal origin destined for human consumption. Consequently, the curricular programme is all-inclusive and interdisciplinary in order to prepare the Veterinarians for the various possible paths their careers may take and in which the core subjects are included: Adequate knowledge of the sciences in which the activities of a veterinarian are based; adequate knowledge of the structure and functions of healthy animals, their husbandry, reproduction and hygiene in general as well as their feeding, including the technology used in the manufacturing and preservation of foods that correspond to their needs; adequate knowledge of the behaviour, protection and well being of animals; Adequate knowledge of the causes, nature, course, effects, diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases whether these are considered individually or in groups; among these, a special knowledge of diseases that are transmissible to humans; adequate knowledge of preventive medicine; adequate knowledge of food hygiene and safety and technology involved in the production, manufacturing and putting into circulation of animal foodstuffs or foodstuffs of animal origin intended for human consumption; , adequate knowledge with regard to the laws, regulations and administrative organization concerning the subjects listed above; An adequate clinical experience and practice.

Objectives
Veterinary Medicine at ULHT is included as a special regime of the integrated study cycle conducive to the Master degree in Veterinary Medicine in accordance with national and EU legislation. Studies in Veterinary Medicine were approved by the Decree No. 1107/2004 on the 7th of September and were adapted to the requirements of the Bologna agreements in 2007. The curricular structure of the licentiate and Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine was drafted so as to comply with EU directives and the criteria of evaluation of the European Union (EU Directives 78/1026/EEC, 78/1027/EEC, 81/1057/EEC, Decision 2005/36/EC and 78/1028/EEC). Studies in Veterinary Medicine at ULHT comprise 11 semesters spread over two study cycles. The 1st Study Cycle corresponds to 6 academic semesters with a total allocation of 180 mandatory credits (ECTS) and is designated as a Licentiate Degree in Basic Veterinary Sciences. The 2nd Study Cycle of the Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine, conducive to a Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine corresponds to 5 academic semesters with a total allocation of 150 mandatory credits (ECTS)

The main vocational opportunities of the Master degree in Veterinary Medicine can be summed up as follows, but are limited to: Veterinarian in Pet Clinics; Veterinarian in Clinics for wild and exotic species; Veterinarian in Clinics for animals in sports; Veterinarian in Clinics for farm animals; Veterinarian in Livestock Enterprises that run production and breeding programmes; Veterinarian in Companies that prepare Animal Nutrition, feed production and food for animals; Veterinarian in Animal Drug Companies, Biotech and Diagnostics Enterprises; Veterinarian in the State bodies responsible for health inspection and safety and food quality control of the products of animal origin; Veterinarian in the field of the Technology of products of animal origin (meat, milk, fish, eggs, enterprises, etc.); Veterinarian in the field of Quality and Food Safety in public or private companies of primary production in manufacturing and distribution industries and sale of foods of animal origin; Veterinarian in National European and International Bodies, responsible for the regulatory action of Animal Health and Public Health; Veterinarian in State or Company Food Control Laboratories; Veterinarian in various sectors of Education and Research
