Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre held, on 29 October 2025, another edition of the “Great Artists on Campus” at Cinema Fernando Lopes. The guest for this session was the artist Mikhail Karikis, internationally recognised for his work that intersects moving images, sound, and performance.
Based in Lisbon, the Greek-British artist shared with the audience his trajectory and his vision of the role of art in shaping collective and inclusive futures. His works, presented in major biennials, museums, and film festivals, explore issues of social and environmental justice, emphasising listening as an artistic strategy and highlighting the importance of solidarity and self-determination.
Karikis is the current recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Art Award (2024–2026) and is among the finalists to represent Portugal at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. The conference offered students and faculty members of ECATI – School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Technologies an inspiring encounter with one of today’s most relevant artists.
