Luso-Angolan International Workshop on Civil Protection
The event helped to understand the reality of Angola and Portugal in the area of Civil Protection
05.12.23 - 10h03On November 28th, a Luso-Angolan Civil Protection Workshop took place at Lusófona University - University Center Porto, featuring the presence of important figures from Angola and Portugal. The event took place both in-person and in a hybrid format, addressing crucial topics for reflection with the central objective of understanding the reality of both countries. The goal is to establish, in the near future, mutual cooperation that promotes the exchange of experiences, mutual assistance, progress, and greater collective security.
The workshop also marked the recently established protocol between the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Angola (SPCB) and Lusófona University. The initiative resulted from the collaboration of the University Center of Porto of UL, through its Civil Protection and Risk Analysis Group (RAGroup Portugal), and SPCB of Angola.
One of the main topics addressed was preventive analysis, which was identified as a crucial aspect to develop in civil protection. Lusófona University was highlighted as an essential liaison for this topic, given that it is a research center necessary for research and informed decision-making.
The event consisted of two speaker panels. The first was dedicated to civil protection and international cooperation, with the participation of Fire Commissioner Manuel Matanda Lutango. The second panel discussed risks in Civil Protection and their management, with a focus on risk assessment and mapping, presented by Professor André Branco Rodrigues.
The workshop's conclusion included the participation of Patrícia Gaspar, Secretary of State for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Internal Administration of Portugal. The event represented comprehensive training, bringing together academia, work, and the community.
The importance of events like this, establishing synergies between Lusófona and its group scattered across three continents, was emphasized. This event also served to honor Portuguese and Angolan firefighters, highlighting the collaboration and joint concern for society.
