On 2 and 16 March, Lusófona University - Porto University Centre hosted the Workshop “InfoClima – Youth in action against climate misinformation”, by Associação Zero, in an initiative that brought together students from different years of the Undergraduate Degree in Applied Communication.

The first session of the workshop was dedicated to combating climate misinformation, focusing on the concept of prebunking, a communication strategy that seeks to anticipate and neutralise misinformation before it takes effect.

That afternoon, the students participated in an interactive session on climate change and information manipulation mechanisms, exploring concrete examples and strategies for the critical analysis of media content. This initial moment allowed for the laying of the conceptual and methodological foundations for the collaborative work to be developed in the second session, where participants were challenged to think about and develop a communication campaign on climate prebunking.

The lecturer Lurdes Macedo explained that this event was the result of establishing a partnership that “made total sense to establish, as it was a way for students to apply knowledge from Curricular Units that already integrate the analysis of misinformation".

In the 2nd session, the students proposed concrete actions to combat climate misinformation, such as the production of short videos, podcasts, or other content.

The best works resulting from this workshop will be presented at the Creative Idea Summit, within the scope of the Undergraduate Degree in Applied Communication, allowing for public visibility of the developed proposals.

With these two moments, InfoClima sought to empower future communication professionals to understand, identify, and counter misinformation strategies associated with climate change, promoting an active and informed intervention in the public space.
