On 18 November, the Applied Master’s in Advanced Human Resources Management MAGARH at Lusófona University held the first edition of the Conversations on Labour Law and Human Resources at the Professor José Araújo Auditorium in Lisbon, dedicated to the theme “Possible changes to the Labour Code and their implications for the country”. Integrated into the course unit Labour Law and Human Resources Management, the seminar brought together students, lecturers and professionals in a fully packed auditorium, reflecting the strong interest of both the academic and professional community.
The session was coordinated and moderated by Professor Miguel Caetano and led by Professor Miguel Furtado, lecturer, lawyer, consultant and manager, who also joined the panel. The debate also included contributions from Professors Miguel Real Mendes, university lecturer, lawyer and former Governor of Rotary Portugal, and Nuno Magalhães, university lecturer, lawyer and former Member of the Portuguese Parliament. The three guests provided a legal, political and socio-economic perspective on the possible directions of the labour framework in Portugal.
Throughout the session, some of the most critical topics of potential changes to the Labour Code were analysed, including new protections for platform workers, revisions to parental leave and breastfeeding rights, as well as possible changes to the right to strike. The discussions promoted an honest, current and multidisciplinary debate on the impact of these transformations on business competitiveness and worker protection.
