New Lab LIFE brings together innovation, education and artificial intelligence
The new CeiED lab combines innovation and the future of education with a reflection on the role of Artificial Intelligence in research
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The inauguration of Lab LIFE took place on 2 October in room U.0.2 at Lusófona University, alongside the seminar “Researching with Artificial Intelligence: A Cognitive Partner, Not a Substitute”. Part of CeiED (Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development), the laboratory is a new research space dedicated to innovation, the future of education and the impact of technological transformation on teaching and learning environments.
The event began with a presentation by lecturer António Teodoro, followed by a talk by lecturer Vítor Duarte Teodoro. In the first part, he traced the evolution of classrooms over the years, showing what they were like initially and the successive transformations that led to the spaces we have today. Lab LIFE is the result of this process of adaptation and renewal, reflecting changing academic and research needs.
The presentation continued with a reflection on the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and scientific research. The discussion explored how these technologies can support research, analysis and information management, complementing researchers’ work without replacing critical thinking, interpretation or scientific authorship. It also addressed the precautions required when using AI, particularly in Education and the Social Sciences.
The practical component included a live demonstration of a personal research ecosystem based on ReadCube Papers and Notion. Several lecturers followed the presentation and discovered how the two tools can be used together, from searching, reading, annotating and managing bibliographic references to organising literature, data, notes, projects and scientific writing.
