On 23 June, the Faculty of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies (FCAATI) welcomed two Mozambican guests for an open lecture dedicated to the theme of scientific and cultural cooperation between Mozambique and Portugal.

The session featured the presence of Martins Mapera, Rector of the Sociotechnical University of Mozambique, and António Braço, Director of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Licungo. Moisés de Lemos Martins, Director of FCAATI at Lusófona University – Porto University Centre, moderated the event, introducing the guests to the students and highlighting the importance of academic cooperation within the Lusophone space.

As the first speaker, Martins Mapera presented the topic “Mozambique and Portugal: Heritage, Memories and Scientific Cooperation”. During his speech, he emphasised the importance of the Portuguese language as a cultural and academic bridge, underlining the value of diversity in building a cooperative world.

He was followed by António Braço, with the lecture “Ideas and Images of Self and Other in Mozambican School Textbooks”. The director reflected on the representation of Africans in school manuals and the need for scientific research that promotes a more inclusive global perspective.

The open lecture concluded with questions from the audience regarding the future of cooperation between Portuguese-speaking countries, the significance of historical memory, and the role of such initiatives in strengthening intercultural dialogue.
