Seminar Examined the Evolution of the Radical Right in Brazil

The Lusófona Centre on Global Challenges (LusoGlobe) hosted the international seminar “The Radical Right in Brazil: Past and Present” on April 27 at Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário Lisboa.

The session featured Odilon Caldeira Neto, professor at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Brazil, and a researcher funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Internationally recognized for his studies on the far right, the academic is the author of Neofascism and the Far Right in Brazil, published by Cambridge University Press.

During the conference, participants explored the dynamics of right-wing radicalization in Brazil from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The discussion focused on topics such as neofascism, political extremism, and their relationship with democratic institutions.

Organized by LusoGlobe, the event was open to students, researchers, and faculty members in the fields of political science, international relations, and history. It encouraged critical reflection on contemporary political phenomena and their impact on society.
