On 27 May, Lusófona University - Porto University Centre hosted the seminar “Transforming Realities: Social Projects in Debate”. The event sought to strengthen the connection between academic education and professional practice within the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, promoting the development of critical analysis, communication and teamwork skills, while also fostering contact with collaborative networks between higher education and organisations working in the social sector.

This seminar was particularly significant as it enabled students to gain first-hand insight into the reality of social intervention and projects developed across different areas of practice, allowing them to understand, in practical terms, the processes involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of social projects, complementing the knowledge acquired throughout their academic studies.

The programme was organised into four thematic panels, with sessions covering areas such as children and young people, social reintegration, migration and disability, where participants shared practices, challenges and achievements from different fields of intervention.

Throughout the seminar, initiatives focusing on personal and community development, the integration of people in vulnerable situations, the reception and inclusion of migrant and refugee populations, and the promotion of accessibility and the appreciation of diversity were presented.

Through the exchange of experiences and direct contact with professionals and organisations, future social workers were able to deepen their knowledge, broaden their perspectives and understand the importance of developing innovative and sustainable social responses capable of meeting the needs of communities.
