The 1st edition of OffScreen brings audiovisual professionals to ULusófona

On 8 April, Lusófona University - Porto University Centre hosted the 1st edition of the OffScreen: Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication Festival – a day filled with workshops in the audiovisual field.

Organised by 1st- and 3rd-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication (CAM) at Lusófona University, under the coordination of lecturer Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, the event was designed as a space for direct contact with the job market.

The main aim of the initiative was to connect the academic context with professional reality, seeking to “bring together the world of work, the challenges of the film, audiovisual and communication industry, and the expectations of audiovisual and multimedia communication students.”

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to attend talks with industry professionals and take part in practical workshops, where methodologies, tools and real-world experiences from the field were explored.

OffScreen welcomed in its Take 1, during the morning, António Morais, director of photography, with the Cinematography Workshop; Ricardo Teixeira, video editor, with the Video Editing Workshop; and Liliana Mendes, designer and photographer, with the Design and Photography Workshop.

In its Take 2, during the afternoon, it welcomed filmmaker, editor and film editor Sara N. Santos with the Film Editing Workshop, sound technician DJ.GATO.X with the Sound and DJing Workshop, and photographer Vanessa Souza with the Photography Workshop.

The Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication Festival sought to create an environment of experimentation and hands-on learning. The workshops enabled participants to develop technical and creative skills, while the talks with guests provided perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in the field of audiovisual and multimedia communication.

The event marked the debut of an initiative aimed at bringing the academic context closer to professional reality, promoting knowledge sharing and the enhancement of students’ skills in this area.
