ULusófona Launches Digital Credentials Pilot for Europe
Pioneering Project Facilitates Academic Mobility with Instant Diploma Verification
10.05.24 - 14h59Universidade Lusófona, together with Universidade do Porto and Instituto da Maia, is a partner in the large-scale pilot DC4EU - Digital Credentials for Europe. This pilot includes around 90 European partners and covers 20 member states. Universidade Lusófona is participating as an Element Provider in the use case applied to Higher Education in Europe. The aim is to issue diplomas, certificates and student IDs in the form of verifiable digital credentials.
The use of verifiable digital credentials will simplify the mobility process for citizens in the European area through the simplified and immediate recognition of academic diplomas. This will make it possible for any citizen to store their credentials in a digital wallet and use them in any context, namely for access to study programmes in any member state of the European Union. This process will involve a joint effort to create a framework of trust at European level that allows the different institutions to recognise the veracity of the credentials held by European citizens.
The University is starting the process of issuing verifiable digital credentials to its students. To this end, a pilot is being prepared for all students who will be able to test the use of this type of credential to access services on campus. More news about this pilot will be announced very soon.
