Published and available to purchase from Editora d'Ideias and major retailers, the monograph IPSS - Private Institutions of Social Solidarity in Portugal is authored by Professor Agostinho Branquinho, PhD, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Political Science.

Drawing on doctoral research that was approved with distinction and commendation, the author provides a rigorous portrait of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity: their centuries-old history, governance models, relationship with the State and sustainability challenges.

A survey of 254 institutions reveals a critical gap: the near absence of strategic communication, which undermines the sector's visibility, ability to secure resources and autonomy.

Bridging diagnosis and proposals, the book concludes with ten recommendations to raise public awareness of those who care for the most vulnerable every day. The work also includes contributions by Pedro Passos Coelho, Lino Maia, António Tavares and Pedro Duarte.

The publication reflects Lusófona University's commitment to encouraging and supporting its academic staff in producing knowledge that engages with social dynamics, turning rigorous academic research into practical applications and contributing to the debate on the future of Portugal's social sector.
