ULusófona students develop accessible games as part of the GameIN project
The initiative challenged participants to create inclusive video games, combining innovation, accessibility and social impact
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The GameIN project promoted a Game Jam dedicated to the creation of accessible video games for people with intellectual disabilities, held between 13 and 17 April. The initiative involved 15 students from Lusófona University’s Video Games programmes, who developed four games aimed at stimulating motor and cognitive skills in an inclusive, educational and engaging way.
Throughout the development process, participants worked closely with users from the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities (APPACDM) of Lisbon and the Centre for the Education of Citizens with Disabilities (CECD) of Mira Sintra. Through testing sessions and feedback activities, users actively contributed to the creation and improvement of the games, helping to ensure that the solutions developed met their needs and interests.
The initiative concluded with a project showcase session, during which the students presented the games they had developed to representatives and members of the partner organisations, marking the end of a week of collaborative work and social innovation.
The four games created during the Game Jam are available to play on the Itch.io platform.
