Solidarity walk to be held on May 11, organised by Physical Education and Sport students, with registration by donating food
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The third-year students of the Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Sport at Universidade Lusófona - Porto University Centre are organising a solidarity walk, which will take place on 11th May. This event is a practical reflection of the knowledge acquired during the Masterclass on Best Practices in the Management and Organisation of Walking and Running Events, held on 7th March. The session was led by Jorge Teixeira, CEO of Run Porto, and covered essential topics regarding the organisation of sports events, such as planning, logistics, and execution.
The walk will be open to the public, and registration can be done by donating a bag of food, which will be later distributed by the Porto Food Bank.
During the masterclass, Jorge Teixeira shared his vast experience, including his involvement with the São Silvestre Race, recalling the early editions of the race when registrations were done via mail and the finish line was simply marked by a tape between two posts. He also discussed the logistical challenges of events of this magnitude, highlighting the importance of coordinating with various entities, such as the Municipal Councils, and the need for a large team to ensure the success of the organisation.
The event organised by the students thus represents a practical application of the knowledge gained during the course, and also an opportunity to contribute to a charitable cause. The walk coincides with the celebrations of the 31st anniversary of the Food Bank, further expanding the social impact of this initiative.
With this event, the students will have the opportunity to apply their skills in practice and actively participate in the organisation of an initiative of great social relevance.
