What will I learn in this course?
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master¿s Programme (EMJM) in Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies (AISS) focuses on sustainability, artificial intelligence and data-driven decisions, and participatory design methods engaging citizens. After completing the master's programme, students understand and can use a participatory design approach for studying and designing AI and data-driven sustainable solutions for societies. The programme is composed of a) Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, which focuses on AI and data-driven decision-making; b) Sustainable Digital Societies, which tackles, values, diversity, equity and the digital and green skills needed for future societies; and c) Active Citizenship, in which citizen active participation methods; how to enhance engagement in the democratic processes and be able to control own data.

Profile of the candidates for whom the course is intended
The programme welcomes students who master the English language, are open-minded, daring, and have a background or strong interest in one of the pillars (AI and Data Science, Sustainable Digital Societies, and Active Citizenship). We welcome students with various backgrounds, including engineering, information technology, biology, geography, environmental sciences, design, social and humanistic studies, cognitive science, statistics, mathematics, and business and management. Observations
The programme is designed together with three universities: -Tallinn University, School of Digital Technologies -Lusófona University, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology -Tampere University, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences The programme consists of the following academically dependent specialisations, which are studied in parallel in three different locations: -Starting studies in Tallinn, courses in sustainable societies, and human AI design and collaboration (1st semester 2024/2025) -Continuing in Porto with a mix of electives and compulsory studies concerning AI and Data Science (2nd semester 2024/2025) -Arriving in Tampere, studies include an Interdisciplinary Project course with real clients.
