Open Courses Rural Fire Protection

The Rural Fire Protection micro-credential aims to train professionals in the Integrated Rural Fire Management System (SGIFR) to plan, organize, and implement measures to protect people, built assets, and infrastructure from the risk of rural fires. It corresponds to the AGIF micro-credential, PCIR¿Rural Fire Protection. The course covers self-protection strategies, risk communication, emergency management, evacuation, protection of urban-forest interfaces, and the development of special emergency plans, fostering the skills needed to respond before, during, and after rural fires, including in scenarios involving extreme fire behavior.

This program is intended for candidates with education or professional experience in the fields of civil protection, safety, emergency management, the environment, forestry, land-use planning, or related areas. It is recommended that participants have prior knowledge of operational organization, civil protection, or wildland fire management. The selection of candidates may take into account their academic background, professional experience, and functional relevance within the Integrated Rural Fire Management System (SGIFR) or in activities related to protection and rescue.

This program is intended for candidates with a qualification at level 6 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework (QNQ), preferably with training or professional experience in the fields of civil protection, safety, emergency management, the environment, forestry, land-use planning, or related areas. It is recommended that participants have prior knowledge of operational organization, civil protection, or wildland fire management. Completion of the CF micro-credential is preferred and may be completed beforehand or concurrently. The selection of candidates may take into account their academic background, professional experience, and functional relevance within the Integrated Rural Fire Management System (SGIFR) or in activities related to protection and rescue.

The Rural Fire Protection micro-credential reinforces technical and operational skills relevant to professionals working in civil protection, safety, integrated rural fire management, and the protection of people and built assets. The knowledge acquired can be applied in municipal and regional civil protection services, operational units of the Integrated Rural Fire Management System (SGIFR), public agencies involved in land management, safety, and emergency response, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, entities responsible for protecting critical infrastructure, and technical teams for emergency planning and management. The training enables participants to develop skills in identifying critical risk situations, planning self-protection measures, drafting special emergency plans, organizing evacuations, defining risk communication strategies, and implementing mitigation measures at urban-forest interfaces. It also serves as professional development for senior technical staff, field personnel, consultants, researchers, and civil protection agents involved in the prevention, planning, and response to wildfires.

Assessment will be ongoing and focused on the practical application of the knowledge acquired, with an emphasis on analyzing real-world scenarios, problem-solving, and developing strategies for protecting against wildfires.
