When I started thinking about applying to higher education, one of the experiences that most helped me make a decision was participating in the University's open days. So, visiting the campus, talking to teachers and my colleagues, students, and attending the course presentation sessions and their activities. This gives you a much clearer idea of the academic environment and allows you to know more or less what to expect from the university itself.
I think that for those who are at this stage of indecision, open days are extremely important. They help you understand if it is the right place, not only because of the course, but also because of the atmosphere and values of the university. I remember my first day at university very well.
It was a mixture of nervousness, a bit of excitement and curiosity. I felt a little lost, which is normal, so there's no need to be afraid. And I was very motivated to start a new stage in my life.
I had high expectations, I wanted to meet new people, learn new things and, finally, start my academic journey. Later, this would become a professional journey. Something I also really appreciated were the academic services, such as SIGA and the course secretary, who are always available to answer questions at any time and about any situation. So, if you need anything, from information about the course to how some subjects work or activities, they are always available to help.
And, of course, the welcome activities played a fundamental role. In addition to being fun and relaxed for the most part, they helped you make friends later on and helped you not only on a personal and social level, but also in your academic career, group work, etc.
So, basically, my integration was made up of small moments, but they all contributed. I felt more and more at home at university.
