Candidates must have completed the entrance exams that constitute an access requirement for each course and that can be consulted on the page of the course to which the candidate intends to apply.
According to CNAES Deliberations nº 1043/2021, the entrance exams are valid for 5 years (the year they were held and the following 4 years).
Applicants will be ranked for the respective courses by assigning an application grade, on a scale of 0 to 200, calculated using the following weighting:
50% for the final grade from Secondary Education
50% towards the entrance test grade.Candidates will be sorted in descending order of their application grades, and their placement will be made in the existing vacancies.

For Foreign Secondary School Graduates

(for students with foreign secondary education who wish to replace the entrance exams with similar foreign final exams)
One of the conditions for applying for enrolment and registration in higher education is taking the entrance exams, which assess your ability to attend the course you want.
For students who have completed a Portuguese secondary education course, the entrance exams take the form of national secondary school final exams.
For students taking non-Portuguese courses that are legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education, the entrance exams may be replaced by final exams in subjects from those courses, under the terms of article 20-A of Decree-Law no. 296-A/98, of 25 September, in its current wording.
Candidates wishing to apply for the Replacement of Entrance Exams with Foreign Exams
Candidates who, under the terms of article 20-A of Decree-Law no. 296-A/98, of 25 September, in its current wording, want torequest the replacement of entrance exams with final exams of non-Portuguese courses legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education, should submit your application toApplication Portal, and submit the following documents:
- Document issued by the legally competent body of the foreign education system to which the non-Portuguese secondary education qualification relates, stating:
- The final classification of the course;
- The marks obtained in the final exams of the course they wish to replace the entrance exams, the date they were taken and the grading scale, indicating the minimum positive mark and the maximum positive mark, in the case of a numerical scale, or indicating the positive marks in descending order of value, in the case of a scale presented in alphabetical steps;
- Document proving the equivalence of the foreign course to Portuguese secondary education, including the final classification of the course converted to the Portuguese scale of 0 to 200.
The documents referred to in point a) of the previous paragraph must:
- Be issued by the education authorities of the country of origin;
- Be authenticated by the official education services of the respective country and recognised by the Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority, or carry the apostille of the Hague Convention, and the same should apply to translations of documents whose original language is not Spanish, French or English.
Applications submitted under the 20-A will only be assessed if the above-mentioned documentation has been submitted and the set fee has been paid..
The services have 10 working days to assess the request after checking the above-mentioned requirements.
If the applicant fails to submit all the documents or make payment within 10 days of submitting the application, the application will be invalidated by the relevant department.

Candidates Aged 23 and Over

Special application regimes, in accordance with the Regulamento dos Regimes dos Concursos Especiais, do not apply to international students covered by Decreto-Lei no. 36/2014, of 10 March, as amended by Decreto-Lei no. 113/2014, of 16 July, in its current wording.Candidates who turn 23 years of age by 31 December of the year preceding the sitting of the examination for candidates aged 23 and over.
In compliance with the provisions of the law (Decreto-Lei 64/2006 – regulating access to higher education for candidates aged 23 and over), these examinations are intended to assess the capacity of candidates aged 23 and over to attend an undergraduate degree programme at a higher education institution. The assessment of all candidates includes:
Assessment of academic and professional curriculum;
An interview to assess the candidate’s motivations;
A theoretical and/or practical examination to assess knowledge and skills essential for entry into higher education.
NOTE: THE EXAMINATION IS VALID ONLY FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR IN WHICH THE APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.

In accordance with Joint Order No. 52/2025, enrollment in the available individual course units is open to:- Any candidate who is a Portuguese national or a national of a Member State of the European Union;
- Any other interested party who demonstrates having a valid residence status in national territory for at least one year, proven by the submission of a residence certificate.

Considering the entry into force of new legislation, namely the amendment imposed by Decree-Law no. 65/ 2018, of August 16, which amends Decree-Law No. 74/2006, of March 24, established the possibility of enrolling in isolated disciplines, by any interested party, with the guarantee, in case of approval , certification and even accreditation, if and when you join a course that integrates them. According to article 46.º-A, regarding enrollment in course units:Educational establishments allow enrollment in the curricular units they teach;
Enrollment can be made either by students enrolled in a higher education course or by other interested parties;
Enrollment may or may not be subject to evaluation;
The curricular units in which the student enrolls subject to evaluation and in which he/she obtains approval:
They are subject to certification;
They are obligatorily credited, within the limits set out in paragraph c) of paragraph 1 of article 45, if their holder has or acquires the status of student in a higher education study cycle ;
They are included in a supplement to the diploma that will be issued.
For registration under the terms of this article, the amounts that are fixed, in a proportionate manner, by the legally and statutorily competent body of the higher education establishment are due.

For Graduates of Vocational courses
ApplyThe special admission schemes, in accordance with the Regulation on Special Admission Schemes, do not apply to international students covered by Decree-Law No. 36/2014 of March 10, as amended by Decree-Law No. 113/2014 of July 16, in its current wording.
Candidates must hold dual certification and specialized artistic courses that fall within the areas of education and training (CNAEF) corresponding to the areas of the 1st cycles and Integrated Masters for which they are applying, foreseen in the list established by the CNAES.
Applicants must take, at the institution to which they apply, theoretical or practical tests to assess knowledge and skills considered essential for entry and progression in the cycle of studies to which students are applying.
The candidate must present a diploma/final certificate of completion of the previous qualification course and a document proving the classification of the final test (aptitude or evaluation) of the previous qualification course.
The evaluation of the candidacy for a degree or integrated masters cycle of studies implies the evaluation of the capacity to attend them, in the following terms:
weighting of 50% to the classification end of the course obtained by the student;
20% weighting of the classifications obtained in the evaluation/aptitude tests
30% weighting in the classifications of theoretical or practical tests, carried out in the institution to which they are applying, of evaluation of knowledge and skills considered essential for entering and progressing in the cycle of studies to which students apply.Access and admission under the special competition referred to in this article depends on the candidate obtaining ratings equal to or greater than 95 points, on a scale of 0 to 200 points, in each of the elements of evaluation mentioned in the previous number.
