BiomatNAN04AD focuses on the study of this inflammatory skin disease that affects countless people.15.11.23 - 09h47
In this episode of "Conversations About...", we had the pleasure of being joined by Professor Catarina Rosado and Professor Catarina Pereira Leite, lecturers at Universidade Lusófona and researchers at its research centre, CBIOS. They are also coordinators of the BIOMATNANO4AD project, funded by FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology (EXPL/BTM-MAT/0112/2021).
The research work carried out on the project is in the field of Formulation Strategy & Nanosolutions, seeking to find the best way to establish the relationship between active compounds and their site of action on the skin, through the development of gels, creams or transdermal systems. It also focuses on exploring nanosolutions, the most up-to-date forms of encapsulation using, for example, lipid nanoparticles.
The BIOMATNANO4AD project focuses mainly on the issue of Atopic Dermatitis, an inflammatory skin disease that affects many people. This issue is related to the alteration of the skin's surface barrier, particularly in terms of the change in lipid levels in this layer.
The aim of this project is, above all, to innovate by using an ingredient extracted from insects, specifically the larva of the black soldier fly, to produce lipid nanoparticles. The aim is to promote the use of the circular economy and sustainability to develop products with the potential to be launched on the market.
