Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning, as transforming technologies, spark fears about human inability to comprehend the rational of gradually more complex approaches to decision support. Such intelligent methods, as deep neural networks, are becoming standard go-to algorithms for a wide range of applications. However, applicability in several critical applications, e.g., public policy, security/safety systems, health diagnosis, and fraud detection, has been faced with some hurdles due to ethics and responsibility issues. In this presentation an overview of challenges and current approaches to ethics and responsibility in AI is presented, including case studies.
