Lecture Neuroscience and Teaching: Why Do Active Learning Methodologies Foster Learning?
Active Learning Methodologies and Neuroscience to Transform Learning in Higher Education
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The practice of teaching in the 21st century presents university lecturers with complex challenges, ranging from generational distance and students' hyperconnectivity to the need for constant pedagogical development.
This lecture contrasts the traditional lecture-based model with active learning methodologies, such as the flipped classroom, gamification, problem-based learning, team-based learning, jigsaw and quizzes. The aim is to provide a scientific basis for structuring classes and assessments that maximise student interaction and promote meaningful learning. More than just techniques, we will discuss how to build a relationship of shared responsibility between lecturer and student throughout the teaching and learning process.
