Start September 18 | 08h00 End September 19 | 21h00

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, this conference, co-organised by ICNOVA (NOVA University Lisbon), CICANT (Lusófona University) and ECREA’s Gender, Sexuality and Communication Section, will explore ongoing challenges and emerging issues in gender and intersectional equality within the media.

Despite decades of feminist activism and global frameworks like Section J, gender-based inequalities persist, including the underrepresentation of women in decision-making roles, stereotypical portrayals, and rising online misogyny, particularly affecting minority groups. The event will foster dialogue on these critical issues while examining the role of feminist movements, media regulation, and evolving digital challenges.

Scholars, policymakers, media professionals, and activists are invited to participate and share insights on topics such as feminist media policy, digital harassment, AI implications, intersectional discrimination, and alternative feminist media practices. With thematic sessions, this event will serve as a collaborative platform to exchange ideas, develop strategies for action, and promote a fairer and more inclusive media environment.
