Colloquium Discusses Religious Freedom, Public Health, and the Use of Hoasca

On 2 and 3 June, the Agostinho da Silva Auditorium at Lusófona University hosted the colloquium “Public Health, Religious Freedom, and the Use of Hoasca Tea in a Religious Context”, bringing together researchers, legal experts, academics, and institutional representatives from several countries. The initiative provided a space for interdisciplinary reflection on the relationship between public health, fundamental rights, and the sacramental use of Hoasca tea.

Throughout the event, scientific, legal, and social perspectives were shared, promoting the exchange of knowledge among specialists from different fields. Presentations explored international experiences, legal frameworks, and research contributions aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of this practice and its integration within different institutional contexts.

Marked by the diversity of participants and the international scope of its programme, the colloquium reinforced the importance of cooperation between academia, law, and science in addressing complex and contemporary issues. The initiative also contributed to advancing the debate on the protection of fundamental rights and the role of institutions in managing religious diversity in modern societies.
