Alina Petukhova, researcher at COPELABS - Research Centre for People-Centred Computing and Cognition of Lusófona University, will defend her doctoral thesis “LLM-Based Clustering of Text Documents” on 29 September, at 12h00, at the Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre campus.

Her doctoral research has been published in three peer-reviewed articles in Scopus Q1/Q2 journals:

  • “TextCL: A Python package for NLP preprocessing tasks”
  • “MN-DS: A Multilabelled News Dataset for News Articles Hierarchical Classification”
  • “Text clustering with large language model embeddings”

The latter was made available on arXiv in March 2024 and formally published in the December 2025 edition of the International Journal of Cognitive Computing in Engineering, ranked 5th out of 190 journals in the field of Information Systems and Management (Scopus). The article has already surpassed 100 citations on Google Scholar, demonstrating its strong impact within the scientific community.

Petukhova’s work demonstrates one of the first successful applications of large language model embeddings for text document clustering, constituting a significant contribution to the fields of natural language processing and artificial intelligence.
