Lecturer Filipe Casanova, from Lusófona University, and colleagues from other higher education institutions have received international recognition, winning first place in the Scientific Articles / Monographs category of the 5th 2026 Scientific Knowledge Prize, awarded by the Regional Council of Physical Education of the 5th Region (Ceará, Brazil).
The award-winning article, “Comparison between warm-up protocols in post-activation potentiation enhancement (PAPE) of sprint and vertical jump performance in a female futsal team”, was published in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, a scientific journal ranked in quartile Q1.
The study compared three warm-up protocols in 25 female university futsal players: a traditional warm-up, one involving depth jumps, and another using maximal isometric contractions. The results showed improvements in vertical jump performance across all three groups, while a significant reduction in sprint time was observed only with the isometric protocol. This suggests that responses to warm-up depend on the protocol used and the characteristics of each athlete.
This achievement reflects the rigour and relevance of the research conducted at Lusófona University, reaffirming the institution’s contribution to innovative knowledge production and highlighting the international standing of its academic staff in sports science.
